Technical Talk Overview

Turnarounds in process industries often require mandatory safety system validation, which can extend schedules and increase labor demands. Conventional or manual testing introduces variability, consumes significant work hours, and can delay critical path activities.

This presentation describes an automated approach. The methodology enables execution in both simulation and production modes, allowing functional verification prior to field deployment and streamlined live testing during turnaround. The presentation will cover control and safety platform communication through vendor-agnostic interfaces, providing flexibility in mixed-environment facilities.

Attendees will gain an understanding of implementation considerations, operational workflow, and performance outcomes, including these key topics:

• Integration architecture for automated test execution across multiple system vendors.
• Methods for test sequence development and data capture in real time.
• Automated generation of auditable documentation to meet regulatory requirements.
• Quantitative analysis of manhour reduction and schedule compression achieved through automation.

David Wicker,
Director of Technology, ProLytX

David Wicker is the Director of Technology at ProLytX, bringing over 21 years of expertise in Safety Instrumented Systems, software development, and automation. Before founding ProLytX in 2015, he served as a technical authority for a leading system integrator, where he guided large-scale automation projects. At ProLytX, David has focused on advancing automated validation, leveraging his deep technical background to drive innovation and reliability in safety-critical systems.

Location & Parking

This event will be held at Platform Calgary, 407 9 Avenue SE in Classroom 1. This venue is attached to Calgary Parking's Platform Parkade (Lot 62) parade, find complete parking information here. Park on the east side of the parade and use the elevator to go to level 1, the Cafe team will direct you to Classroom 1. Additionally, there will be ISA directional signs throughout the building.
