An active member of both the Edmonton and Calgary Sections for almost 4 decades, an ISA Fellow since 2003, an ISA Excellence in Enduring Service award recipient (2020, read story), and so much more for ISA... He is a man of great STANDARDS, both here and abroad, with his sights set beyond ISA - in the spirit of collaboration and worldwide adoption.
Though continuing to support the ISA Calgary Section as a Member At Large, as of late, most of his efforts have been in the development of International standards for ISA and IEC. He serves on the ISA Standards & Practices Board as the Managing Director of ISA-5, ISA-20, and ISA-108 and is also co-chair of ISA-112. In June 2023, Ian was elected to the IEC Standards Management Board (SMB) and has been the Chair of IEC SC65C (industrial networks) since 2019. As SC65C Chair Ian is a member of the TC65 Leadership team, and through this role is working with the Canadian Mirror Committee to host the 2024 TC65 Plenary and its Automation Forum sub-event here in Calgary – assuming the role of Plenary Chair.
